Pre-trial investigation of the so-called «amber case» is completed

The Detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) under the procedural guidance of the prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) completed a pre-trial investigation of the criminal proceeding as of the facts of receiving an improper advantage for the assistance to a foreign company in the realization of amber mining in Ukraine (the so-called «amber case»).

NABU and SAPO should be independent for the success of implementation of anti-corruption reforms in Ukraine - OECD

The Anti-Corruption Network for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (ACN) of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) recommends to establish the Anti-Corruption Court in Ukraine without delay and to preserve the independence of the newly established anti-corruption agencies. Also the OECD recommends ensuring compliance with the jurisdiction of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) according to the Criminal Procedural Code of Ukraine. Such recommendations were provided to Ukraine by the OECP in the Report «Round 4. Monitoring Report on Anti-Corruption Reforms in Ukraine».

Conditions for unhindered NABU work must be created – IMF position

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) proved to be a truly independent and efficient body. In order to provide the result in its fight against corruption, we should eliminate the obstacles for the implementation of the anti-corruption reform. Namely - the absence of the Anti-Corruption Court, the pressure accompanying every investigation against top corrupt officials, and attempts to limit the NABU's functional independence. This was emphasized by the Mission Chief for Ukraine at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Ron van Rooden during the meeting with the NABU executives on February 14, 2018.

NABU detained the Odesa City Mayor and his Deputy

On February 14, 2018, the Detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) under the guidance of the prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor`s Office (SAPO) detained the Odesa City Mayor and his Deputy in the Kyiv Boryspil Airport. The officials are suspected of committing a crime under Part 5 Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine («Misappropriation, embezzlement or conversion of property by abuse of office»).

NABU intensified its attack on corruption in 2017 — Artem Sytnyk

From the very start of investigations, the Detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) have exposed more than 300 persons allegedly involved in the corruption crimes. Also 107 cases have already been sent to court. This was stated by the NABU Director Artem Sytnyk at the briefing «Presentation of the Report on the NABU results during the second half of 2017» on February 8, 2018.

NABU and representatives of the Venice Commission discussed amendments to anti-corruption legislation

The official delegation of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (the Venice Commission) and a representative of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) visited the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) on January, 30-31, 2018. Statement: NACP's recommendations regarding the conditions of investigating offences under Articles 366-1 and 368-2 contradict the Law and cannot be applied

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) categorically disagrees with the NACP`s (National Agency on Corruption Prevention) decision №1375 of December 18, 2017, in which the Agency interprets certain provisions of the Law of Ukraine «On Corruption Prevention» regarding the investigation of offences under Articles 366-1 and 368-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. According to the NABU, the proposed explanation of the NACP is legally unjustified and may help corrupt officials to evade criminal liability for illegal enrichment and submitting false data to e-declarations.

NABU Detectives completed pre-trial investigation as of the former executives of the PJSC United Mining and Chemical Company

On January 15, 2018, the prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) opened access to pre-trial investigation materials as of the Former Acting Chairman of the Board of the Public Joint-Stock Company United Mining and Chemical Company (PJSC UMCC) and the Head of Sales and Marketing of PJSC UMCC to the defense. The abovementioned officials are suspected of committing crimes under Part 3 Article 27, Part 2 Article 28, Part 2 Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of office).

NABU Detectives exposed 1.4 billion UAH gas embezzlement scheme

On January 16, 2018, the Detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) jointly with the Central Directorate of the Counterintelligence Protection of the National Economy of the Security Service of Ukraine under the procedural guidance of the prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) detained four officials of Limited liability company (LLC) Energiya-Novyj Rozdil, LLC Energia-Novoyavorivsk and LLC Energiya. The detainees are suspected of 300 million cubic meters embezzlement of natural gas of National Joint-Stock Company (NJSC) Naftogaz of Ukraine which exceeds 1.4 billion UAH. On the same day, the suspects were given notices of suspicion for allegedly committing crimes under Part 5 Article 190, Part 3 Article 28, Part 2 Article 366, Part 3 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Deputy of the Odesa Regional Council was exposed on offering a bribe to the NABU Detective

On January 12, 2018, the Detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) jointly with the employees of the Prosecutor General`s Office of Ukraine gave a notice of suspicion to the Deputy of the Odesa Regional Council and his alleged accomplice for offering 500 thousand USD of improper advantage to the employee of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU). The abovementioned persons are suspected of committing a crime under Part 3 Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
