GPO continues putting pressure on the NABU employees

05.12.2017 00:00

On December 5, 2017, the Deputy Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yurii Stoliarchuk gave notices of suspicion to two more employees of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU). The earlier detained NABU undercover agent was given notice of suspicion on November 30. The Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine (GPO) suspects the NABU employees of allegedly committing crimes under Article 369 (Offer, promise, or giving improper advantage to official) and Article 370 (Provocation of bribery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

We emphasize that none of the NABU employees has ever provoked any of the officials of the State Migration Service of Ukraine (SMSU) for receiving a bribe.

As for the accusation in giving an improper advantage to the SMSU official, we emphasize that the abovementioned investigative actions took place within the framework of the special task conducted by the NABU undercover agent on the basis of the decision on the control of the commission of the crime issued by the prosecutor of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor`s Office (SAPO). According to the materials of the criminal proceeding, the SMSU official herself repeatedly demanded 30 thousand USD for making decision on the issue of the foreigner's citizenship of Ukraine and then for the provision of a certificate for obtaining a certificate of temporary residence permit in Ukraine.

Obviously, the story of "the bribe provocation" was invented and used by the GPO and the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) as a formal pretext to disrupt the NABU undercover operations, to detain the NABU employees, and to get court permit on the searches of the Bureau’s conspiratorial apartments and the houses of the NABU employees and their relatives.

In the Bureau’s opinion, the ultimate goal of the abovementioned actions was to block further investigations against top-corrupt officials.

It should be reminded that on November 29, 2017, during documenting one of the episodes with the participation of the First Deputy Head of the State Migration Service of Ukraine (SMSU), the officers of the Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) under the procedural guidance of the prosecutors of the Prosecutor General`s Office of Ukraine (GPO) illegally detained an undercover detective of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and disrupted the whole operation.

The Bureau considers the abovementioned actions to be a planned sabotage against the NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) conducted by the Security Service of Ukraine and sanctioned by the Prosecutor General of Ukraine, which became possible due to the information leak during undercover activities, as the NABU does not have the right of autonomous wiretapping.
