NABU exposed Kyiv university chancellor on taking 3 million UAH bribe

The Detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine under the procedural guidance of the Anti-Corruption prosecutors and in cooperation with the Chief Department for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime of the Security Service of Ukraine in Kyiv and region exposed and took into custody the Acting Chancellor of the National Aviation University for taking an improper advantage (bribe).

The chancellor demanded 5 million UAH and additional 50, 000 USD for not putting further obstacles to reinstatement in posts (by the court decision) of the University former employees and for signing n their appointments.

On Friday, August 26, 2016 the Acting Chancellor through the intermediary received a part of the demanded bribe in the approximate amount of   3 million UAH (100 thousand EURO) for signing an order on reinstatement of one of the NAU professors in post.

During investigating actions (a search) at the residence of the Acting Chancellor of the National Aviation University, the NABU detectives in total seized around 5 million UAH (1,5 million UAH, 50 thousand USD, 70 thousand EURO, 3 thousand British pounds, other currency) in cash. Also the NABU detectives seized 9 gold bars with the weight of gold from 2 to 20 grams.

On August 27, 2016 the detained NAU Acting Chancellor and the intermediary (the lawyer) received notices of suspicion under the Part 4 of the Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. In case the court finds them guilty, the above-mentioned persons will face the imprisonment for a term from 8 to 12 years with forfeiture of property and disqualification to hold certain positions or to be engaged in certain activities for 3 years.
