NABU finished pre-trial investigation of the case of NAU Acting Chancellor

On December 19, 2016, the Detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) under the procedural guidance of the Anti-corruption prosecutors finished the pre-trial investigation of the criminal proceeding as of the facts of the Acting Chancellor of the National Aviation University (NAU) allegedly receiving improper advantage in the amount of 100 thousand EUR .

The Acting Chancellor of the NAU, an intermediary-lawyer and a retired Major General (equivalent to Brigadier General in the US) are suspected of committing crimes under the Part 4 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine («Accepting an offer, promise or receiving an improper advantage by an official»).

The defense is provided with access to the files of the pre-trial investigation.

It should be reminded that according to investigation in 2015 the Acting Chancellor of the NAU demanded 5 million UAH and additional 50 thousand USD for not putting any further obstacles to reinstatement of former University employees (by court ruling) and for signing the orders for their appointment.

On August 26, 2016, the abovementioned Acting Chancellor with a help of an intermediary received a part of the demanded bribe in the approximate amount of 3 million UAH (100 thousand EUR) for signing an order on reinstatement of one of the NAU professors.

Also the investigation revealed that in 2016 the Acting Chancellor of the NAU intentionally didn’t comply with the entered into legal force court orders on the reinstatement of a number of illegally fired employees of the University.
