The NABU finished pre-trial investigation into State Finance Institution for Innovations property embezzlement

On Wednesday, 23 March 2016, the detectives of the National Anti-corruption Bureau of Ukraine finished the pre-trial investigation of the criminal proceeding concerning embezzlement of the State Finance Institution for Innovations property by its head (article 191, part 5 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
 
The indictment was forwarded to court by prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office, the accused has reviewed the case file.
 
According to the pre-trial investigation files, the accused has committed large-scale embezzlement of state property: he transferred the debt claim on the debts of the “Antonov” state-owned company amounting to more than 16 million UAH to a third party. This caused more than 14,5 million UAH damage to the state. 
 
Rapid response and effective actions within the criminal proceeding (seizure of assets, removal from office) prevented further property disposition in favour of third parties and money withdrawals from the institution's accounts. 
 
The NABU together with the Specialized Anti-corruption Prosecutor's office is applying measures in order to recover these funds. 
 
Procedural control over the pre-trial investigation is being carried out by prosecutors from the Specialized Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office. 
 
It should be reminded that on 18 February the Head of the State Finance Institution for Innovations was arrested in the workplace. The accused is now being held in the pre-trial detention centre. 
 
Reference. The State Finance Institution for Innovations (SFII) was founded according to the decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and is now a legal successor to all property rights and duties, including those regulated by agreements on providing innovation loans, of the State Innovation Fund and its regional offices. The objective of the SFII is to provide financial support to  economic entities of various forms of ownership as a part of the state innovation policy. The Head of the Institution and its deputies are appointed and dismissed by the property management agency by agreement with the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
