NABU results in April 2018: 602 cases in progress, 380 corrupt officials exposed

As of the end of April 2018, Detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) under the procedural guidance of the prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) have exposed and prosecuted more than 380 corrupt officials. In 135 cases, the pre-trial investigation was completed and indictments against 207 persons were passed to courts. At the moment, NABU Detectives investigate over 600 criminal proceedings, in which 174 persons are suspected of committing corruption crimes.

In April 2018, the NABU Detectives and the SAPO prosecutors gave notices of suspicion to 18 persons. Many of them being judges and their accomplices or intermediaries in receiving an improper advantage.  In mid-April 2018, immediately after receiving an improper advantage the deputy prosecutor of the Vinnytsia oblast was detained. At the end of April 2018, the NABU detectives also exposed an employee of the State Security Service of Ukraine. He allegedly used his power to blackmail the foreigners who had illegally received residence permits. The SSU officer was detained immediately after receiving the part of the improper advantage in the amount of USD 36,000.

In April 2018, the NABU Detectives completed pre-trial investigation in 7 criminal proceedings and prepared indictments against 8 persons. In addition, materials of other high-profile criminal proceedings were unveiled to suspects, which means that the pre-trial investigation is de facto finished. Among them, it is worth mentioning the investigation of the UAH 14.5 million embezzlement during the purchase of backpacks for the National Guard of Ukraine and the embezzlement of UAH 247 million belonging to the State Enterprise "Administration of Sea Ports of Ukraine" during the purchase of dredging works at the seaports of Ukraine.
