The National Anti-corruption Bureau of Ukraine took into custody the judge of the Malynovsky district court of Odessa who was exposed of receiving improper advantage (bribe) in the amount of 500 thousand UAH. Verkhovna Rada gave its consent for taking into custody and arresting the judge today. 255 deputies voted for taking the judge into custody and 247 deputies – for arrest of the corruptionist.

The NABU detectives in cooperation with the prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-corruption Prosecutor's Office are preparing a motion to the court to select a preventive measure. The suspect is being held in a temporary detention facility. Investigative actions continue.

“The incident with taking the judge from Odessa into custody has evoked a strong response in the society. We were blamed for being too soft in responding to the judge's actions. We emphasize that the NABU employees act only within the limits of current laws. I am certain that the purpose of any investigative actions is just and rightful punishment for corruption,” - stated Artem Sytnyk, the Bureau's Director.

It should be reminded that on 29 March during a search conducted by the officers of the National Bureau and the National Police the judge of the Malynovsky district court of Odessa began resisting and opened fire. After that he fled the scene of investigative actions. The judge was given notice of suspicion of committing criminal offence under the article 368, part 4 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (receiving improper advantage).
