The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine plans to work more actively with the European Union's Judicial Cooperation Unit (Eurojust) and the European Police Office (Europol). This was discussed on September 27-28 in Hague (Netherlands) during the meetings between the NABU Director Artem Sytnyk and the Head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office Nazar Kholodnitskiy and the heads of abovementioned organizations.
The Ukrainian officials and the European counterparts discussed the most effective ways to combat corruption along with the possibility to exchange information and the cross-border cooperation in criminal proceedings
In particular, while discussing cooperation with Europol, it was considered to use non-official channels for information exchange which will help to track illegally obtained assets and will provide information on procedures being performed as of them in other countries.
A cooperation with Eurojust facilitates the work between the NABU and Eurojust member countries’ institutions which is to ease the NABU requests’ considering. It will result into increase of investigation effectiveness of cases being under the NABU jurisdiction.
The meetings were organized by the US Diplomatic mission to Ukraine and under the European Union project "Support to Justice Sector Reforms in Ukraine".
