On July 6, 2021, NABU and SAPO filed an indictment with the HACC against two persons charged with offering illegal benefits during the construction of the centralized spent fuel storage facility of water-cooled power reactors at Ukrainian NPPs.

They are the director of a company (Part 5 Article 27, Part 2 Article 369, Part 2 Article 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and the Deputy General Director of a separate division of state nuclear company Energoatom (Part 4 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

According to the investigation, in 2017, the Energoatom official, abusing his post, concluded a UAH 929 million contract with a company controlled by an ex-MP. It stipulated that the company was to build a centralized spent fuel storage facility of water-cooled power reactors at Ukrainian NPPs. Further on, the construction cost increased up to UAH 1.36 billion. However, the facility has not yet been commissioned.

It has been established that during 2017-2019 the official received three apartments in new buildings in Kyiv worth almost UAH 4.42 million free of charge from a company run by the director of the company that was to build the storage and also controlled by the ex-MP.

NABU Detectives have been investigating the above facts since April 2020.

On Feb. 16, 2021, the case materials were disclosed to the defense for review.

According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered non-guilty in the commission of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until he or she is found guilty by court.
