On May 9, 2022, a russian serviceman, senior lieutenant-commander of a company of the 15th separate motorized rifle brigade of the 2nd guards all-military army of the central military district of the russian armed forces, was charged with ill-treatment of civilians and other violations of the laws and customs of war. His actions fall under Part 1 Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The investigation conducted by NABU detectives and Security Service officers under the procedural guidance of the Brovary District Prosecutor's Office found that the suspect illegally interrogated and inflicted bodily injuries on two civilians, residents of Mokrets and Zavorychi villages in Kyiv region, forcing them to go down to the cellar, where they were detained against their will for a certain period of time.
Such deeds violated the laws and customs of war under international treaties approved by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The russian military was notified of suspicion in absentia and will soon get on the wanted list.
As previously reported, NABU, the SSU, and the prosecutor's office identified two russian servicemen who inflicted tortures on a territorial defense fighter captured in Bohdanivka village (Kyiv region) and the rector of the local church.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered non-guilty in the commission of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until he or she is found guilty by court.
