Over UAH 1.65 mln returned, UAH 4 mln saved due to NABU investigation on illegal compensation to the Members of Parliament

Over UAH 1.65 mln of the compensation received unreasonably for rental housing or hotel rooms in Kyiv was returned by the Members of Parliament of the VIII convocation after the Detectives of the National Bureau had begun their investigation in October 2018. In addition, a number of the MPs revised their need for compensation and abandoned it. As a result, taking into account the size of the monthly compensation payment, during December 2018 — January 2019, the Office of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine saved about UAH 4 mln.

NABU calls for the repeal of disputable amendments to the Criminal Code of Ukraine

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) calls on the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to repeal the amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine (CPC), which paralyze the work of investigative authorities. The Members of Parliament are going to consider the Draft Law of Ukraine On the Amendments to Legislative Acts of Ukraine on the Improvement of Criminal Justice (№7547) dated February 5, 2018. The Draft Law proposes to cancel specific amendments to the CPC adopted in October 2017.

Pre-trial investigation of the so-called «amber case» is completed

The Detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) under the procedural guidance of the prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) completed a pre-trial investigation of the criminal proceeding as of the facts of receiving an improper advantage for the assistance to a foreign company in the realization of amber mining in Ukraine (the so-called «amber case»).

NABU and SAPO detained and gave notices of suspicion to accomplices of the so-called "amber mafia". Two MPs allegedly affiliated.

On June 19, 2017, the Detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) under the procedural guidance of the Anti-corruption prosecutors detained 7 persons involved in demanding and receiving improper advantage for the assistance to a foreign company in the realization of amber mining in Ukraine. The operation was implemented jointly with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (USA).

NABU calls on the MPs not to support the Draft Law N6220

The Draft Law №6220 "On Amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine on Entering of Data into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations and Basis on Termination the Criminal Proceedings" is under consideration in the Verkhovna Rada. The adoption of the abovementioned Draft Law can block investigations of law enforcement agencies, including investigations of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor`s Office (SAPO).
