On April 27, 2022, two russian servicemen - captain and major of the motorized rifle company of the 15th separate motorized rifle brigade of the 2nd guard's all-military army of the central military district of russia's armed forces - were charged with ill-treatment of prisoners of war. The actions of both fall under Part 1, Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. They were notified of suspicion in absentia and will soon be wanted.
NABU, SBU, prosecutor's office identify russian war criminals
Providing operative support in the criminal proceedings, NABU detectives together with officers of the Brovary Regional Department of the Security Service of Ukraine in Kyiv and Kyiv region, under the procedural guidance of Brovary District Prosecutor's Office prosecutors, established that the suspects tortured a territorial defense fighter captured in Bohdanivka village (Kyiv region), continuously caused him grievous bodily harm, perpetrated other atrocities prohibited by international conventions, including committing them in public, in front of fellow villagers.
Similar bodily injuries, abuses, and tortures were inflicted upon the rector of the local church.
NABU detectives not only conducted necessary procedural steps to record the crimes by the requirements of international humanitarian law but also established the personal data of criminals crucial for further prosecution.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered non-guilty in the commission of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until he or she is found guilty by court.
