On Dec. 20, 2021, the Detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor`s Office (SAPO) served a notice of suspicion to a former director of the state enterprise (SE) "Market Operator" (who is also a freelance adviser to the Minister of Energy of Ukraine). He is suspected of embezzling almost UAH 2.15 million. The actions of the suspect fall under Part 5 Art. 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

It is impossible to measure the effectiveness of a law enforcement agency solely by statistics. Only an expert external audit could help assess the work of law enforcement agencies. Oleksandr Abakumov, deputy head of NABU’s detective unit, believes.  

The eCase Management System, developed for the automation of the pre-trial investigation among detectives, prosecutors, and judges, has finally been launched. On Dec. 16, 2021, NABU Detectives and SAPO Prosecutors entered the first criminal proceeding in eCase MS. This marked a new milestone in the development of criminal justice in Ukraine and proved the inevitability of its digitalization.

Materials obtained by the NABU Detectives during a pre-trial investigation helped the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU) establish the facts of anticompetitive concerted actions among seven companies in a string of tenders for the supply of software. On Dec. 15, 2021, the AMCU fined the companies over UAH 105.3 million that will go to the state budget. The procurement in question covers the period of 2016-2019.

On Dec. 13, 2021, the head of a district court of Vinnytsia region was notified of the completion of the investigation into extortion and acceptance of an undue benefit. The case materials were disclosed and will go to the High Anti-Corruption Court upon being reviewed by the defense. The actions of the judge fall under Part 3 Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
