Court chose preventive measures for the judges from Dnipro

On April 21, 2017, the Solomyansky District Court of Kyiv chose preventive measures for the Deputy Head of the District Court of Dnipro (in a form of house arrest on the 24-hours basis) and for a judge from the abovementioned court (in a form of house arrest from 10:00 p.m. to 06:00 a.m). It should be reminded that on April 19, 2017, the suspects were detained on receiving improper advantage.

Court supported the NABU investigation of Energoatom`s case

On April 14, 2017, the Kyiv Court of Appeal supported the position of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and canceled the decision of the Solomyansky District Court of Kyiv, according to which the NABU was supposed to terminate the proceeding as of the facts of receiving improper advantage during the procurement procedures made by State Enterprise (SE) National Nuclear Energy Generating Company (NNEGC) Energoatom from the Czech joint-stock company Škoda JS (the so-called “Martynenko’s case”). Thus, the NABU Detectives proceed with the abovementioned pre-trial investigation.

NABU`s activities increase the investment appeal of State Enterprises – Artem Sytnyk

Ukrainian State Enterprises (SE) need investment support but the corruption schemes (usually initiated by the top-management of the SE) hinder investments. This was stressed by the Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) Artem Sytnyk at the 13th Annual Investment Conference Dragon Capital on March 16-17, 2017 in Kyiv.

High Council of Justice tries to undermine the judicial reform once again

The High Council of Justice (HCJ) again shows the intention to undermine the judicial reform. In January 2017 the HCJ made certain statements on a special procedure for the arrest and detention of judges and it actually undermined the achievements of the judicial reform. On March 9, 2017, the High Council of Justice approved the Conclusion on the alleged unconstitutionality of the Law "On the Specialized Anti-Corruption Courts" and on the lack of grounds for their establishment.

NABU`s investigations: key indicators

As of February 28, 2017, the Detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) are investigating 272 criminal proceedings. The damage caused to the State exceeds 83 billion UAH.
