Former Interior Ministry official suspected of equipment procurement scheme
NABU and SAPO have uncovered a large-scale corruption scheme and bribery involving a former top official of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. He is suspected of organizing fraudulent procurement of equipment and receiving premium cars worth over UAH 6 million.
As established, an entrepreneur that supplied surveillance and access control equipment to the ministry inflated prices. In 2020, the ministry purchased the overpriced equipment.
The scheme caused losses to the state worth over UAH 16 million.
After the official was dismissed, the cars remained in his use - they were simply donated through a formal contract.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered not-guilty in the commission of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until he or she is found guilty by court.
