From demand to results: NABU marked 10th anniversary of the Law "On the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine"

The event brought together colleagues, parliamentarians, government and civil society representatives, international partners.

NABU Director Semen Kryvonos said in his welcoming speech: "We have come a long and difficult way. The path from the actual request for change and justice, formed by society, the demands of partners and common sense to clear and concrete accomplishments that affect the life of the country here and now."

NABU head also emphasized the results of the agency's activities: "The figures speak for themselves. More than 1,500 persons were brought to justice, including 200 MPs, judges, and heads of central authorities. Only in the first half of 2024, 13 senior officials, 11 heads of state-owned enterprises, 5 judges and the same number of deputies of regional councils were sent to the dock. 9.4 billion hryvnias were reimbursed to the state, 2.5 billion hryvnias were directed to defense needs."

The event was also attended by Uzra Zeya, Under Secretary of State for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights, John Ginkel, Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy in Ukraine, and Richard Saunders, Director of the US Embassy's International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Section.

"The Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement and the US Embassy are proud of their partnership with NABU over the last ten years, and will continue to support NABU in its important mission to combat corruption. Independent anti-corruption institutions like NABU are vital to the democratic and Euro-Atlantic future of Ukraine," noted Bill Sieber, INL Justice Program Officer.

Finally, Semen Kryvonos thanked everyone behind the Bureau's achievements, in particular its team. He also thanked those who continuously supported NABU: "I thank the representatives of the civil society sector and journalists. You have done a lot for the establishment of NABU. It is what it is, in part, thanks to you. And now, often, your reports serve as the starting point for our investigations."

During the event, the Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine, Andriy Pyshnyy, presented a commemorative medal titled "the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine."
