Border guard suspected of cryptocurrency bribe
NABU and SAPO have exposed an officer of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine bribing a law enforcer with cryptocurrency.
According to the investigation, the border guard involved an intermediary to bribe a law enforcement officer with USDT cryptocurrency equivalent of USD 355,000. In return, he sought to ensure that no measures would be taken to expose his illegal activities.
The full amount was received in the intermediary's crypto wallet, cashed out, and handed over to the law enforcer.
The border guard has been notified of suspicion under Part 1 Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The law enforcer and his intermediary were notified of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine at the beginning of February.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered not-guilty in the commission of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until he or she is found guilty by court.
