Former Deputy Prime Minister notified of suspicion of illicit enrichment

NABU and SAPO have notified a former Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine of suspicion of illicit enrichment.

According to the investigation, the former official was among the individuals who visited the so-called “laundry” — a place used to legalize funds obtained through criminal means. The “laundry” was controlled by the leader of the criminal organization exposed by NABU and SAPO yesterday.

Detectives documented the transfer of over USD 1.2 million and nearly EUR 100,000 in cash to the suspect and his trusted associate.

Qualification: Article 368-5 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illicit enrichment).

It should be noted that the former official has already been charged by NABU and SAPO with abuse of office and accepting an undue advantage in an especially large amount.

According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered not-guilty in the commission of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until he or she is found guilty by court.
