The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office have exposed a systematic bribe-taking by officials of the State Customs Service.
According to the investigation, the head of a department of the Rivne Customs, in collusion with other officials of the State Customs Service, repeatedly received bribes for assisting companies in passing customs control without questions during the clearance of imported goods. In particular, using his official position, he facilitated the customs clearance of such goods at the Rivne Customs at reduced rates.
The money was subsequently distributed among all participants in the criminal scheme.
The official has been notified of suspicion under Part 4 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered not-guilty in the commission of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until he or she is found guilty by court.
