Corruption at Ukrzaliznytsia: five suspects (PHOTOS)

The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, together with the Security Service of Ukraine, have exposed an organized group involved in the embezzlement of funds from JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia" during the repair of track machines.

As established, in 2021, the former director of the production structural unit "Cherkasy Track Repair and Mechanical Plant" of the "Center for Repair and Operation of Track Machines" branch of JSC "Ukrzaliznytsia", with the aim of unlawful enrichment, formed an organized group consisting of current and former employees of the plant.

From April 2021 to February 2022, he managed to have predetermined companies selected as winners of the procurement of services for the repair of track machines. However, such repairs were not carried out, and members of the organized group forged documents that indicated the supposed completion of work by several fictitious enterprises.

As a result, Ukrzaliznytsia suffered losses worth UAH 17.1 million, which the participants in the crime embezzled.

Five members of the organized group have been notified of suspicion, and its leader has been detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.

Their actions fall under Part 5 Article 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The management of Ukrzaliznytsia facilitated the exposure of the crime.

According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered not-guilty in the commission of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until he or she is found guilty by court.
