Ex-Ukrenergo official suspected of bulletproof vest scheme (PHOTOS)
The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, together with the Security Service of Ukraine, have exposed yet another scheme to purchase personal protective equipment at inflated prices during russia's full-scale aggression.
According to the investigation, between March and April 2022, the head of the Security Department of PJSC "NEC "Ukrenergo", who was responsible for checking suppliers and selecting the most economically advantageous proposals, ensured the purchase of bulletproof vests from a predetermined company at a price twice the market rate.
Moreover, this supplier did not have the necessary permits and licenses and had never produced such products before.
Because of this scheme, the state suffered losses amounting to over UAH 10.3 million.
NABU and SAPO, together with the SSU, have notified the former official of suspicion under Part 2 Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered not-guilty in the commission of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until he or she is found guilty by court.
