NABU bolsters Ukraine's anti-corruption capacity on the path to European integration

Ukraine's progress in implementing the anti-corruption reform and adopting the legislation necessary to accede to the Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions. This was discussed during the plenary session of the OECD Working Group on Bribery in Paris and as part of a meeting with OECD representatives held on December 17 at the premises of the National Bureau.

In Paris, the Ukrainian delegation highlighted legislative efforts aimed at harmonizing the regulatory framework with OECD and EU standards. They also outlined the outcomes of the anti-corruption infrastructure reform and the role of anti-corruption bodies in strengthening Ukraine's position on its path towards European integration.

OECD representatives expressed their support for Ukraine's efforts in implementing critical anti-corruption initiatives and acknowledged progress in aligning national legislation with OECD and EU standards. Particular attention was paid to the prospects for improving Ukraine's business climate as a key element of further integration into the European economic area.

Participants at the meeting in Kyiv also emphasized the importance of cooperation in strengthening Ukraine's anti-corruption infrastructure, which is a critical prerequisite for the country's membership in the OECD and the EU. Both sides noted that actions aimed at implementing the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention should not be used as a tool to pressure businesses. Instead, they should serve as further evidence of Ukraine's readiness to operate under the same rules as developed countries.

OECD (Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development) is an international organization uniting 38 countries. The OECD acts as an analytical center and developer of international standards used by the EU in the process of policy formation. The processes of accession to the OECD and the EU complement and accelerate each other.

In 2022, the Government of Ukraine applied for membership in the Organization, and in 2023, the OECD Program for Ukraine was signed. Its implementation will bring Ukraine closer to a full-fledged membership.
