Indictment as of the Chancellor of Berdiansk University sent to court

The Detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) completed pre-trial investigation of criminal proceeding as of the facts of giving bribe in amount of USD 10 thous. (almost UAH 250 thous.) to the Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine by the Chancellor of one of Berdiansk universities, Zaporizhzhia Oblast. He tried to get a positive conclusion on the accreditation of the university.

The indictment under Part 4 Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine ("Offer, promise, or giving improper advantage to official"), signed by the Prosecutor of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office was sent to court.

The court chose to the defendant preventive measure in a form of house arrest, and his property was seized. If Chancellor’s guilty will be proved in court, he faces imprisonment for a term of 5 to 10 years with the possible confiscation of property.

Within the investigation, the issue of imposing a fine of UAH 20 to 50 thous. non-taxable minimum incomes of citizens on the University, in the interests of which the offender acted, is also being resolved.

According to Part 1 Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine a person is considered not-guilty in commission of a crime and cannot be a subject to criminal punishment, until he or she is found guilty by the court.
