Ex-NAAS director sentenced to 8 years in prison

The former director of the Institute of Agroecology and Environmental Management of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Orest Furdychko, has been sentenced to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property. The verdict, passed previously by the High Anti-Corruption Court, has been upheld by the Criminal Court of Cassation of the Supreme Court. The verdict is final and cannot be appealed.

As previously reported, the ex-director in collusion with another person requested an undue advantage of USD 500,000, which he allegedly had to transfer to the NAAS leadership. The money was requested for the smooth implementation of an agreement on joint activities between NAAS and a business entity.

At the end of 2017, NABU detained the official and his accomplice immediately after receiving part of the undue benefit - USD 300,000. In April 2018, the case was referred to court.
