Ex-SBGS head caught on corruption

On Oct. 28, 2022, NABU and SAPO notified the former head of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS), the former head of the SBGS First Capital Development Department, and the director of a private development company of suspicion of abuse of power and official position, through which the developer illegally received more than UAH 10.68 million. The actions of the suspects fall under Part 2 Art. 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

As established, a private company undertook to build 66 apartments in downtown Lviv in the first half of 2019, intended for border guards and their families. Instead, the SBGS received 53 apartments on the outskirts of Lviv worth UAH 10.68 million cheaper than those in Lviv. Despite the contract concluded with the SBGS, the development company sold the apartments in Lviv to third-party buyers. Hence, it proposed a "replacement" scheme to the SBGS head, who accepted the proposal. The investigation has evidence that SBGS officials acted in collusion with the director of the development company, realizing all negative outcomes from the start.
