Chairman, deputy of city council in Odesa region caught red-handed
On Jan. 25, 2023, NABU and SAPO announced suspicions to the chairman and deputy of a city council in the Odesa region. They had been caught red-handed the day before after receiving USD 50,000. Their actions fall under Part 4 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
According to the investigation, the deputy in collusion with the city council chairman requested USD 100,000 for fostering the lease of communal property's 2.5-hectare land plot for warehouses. Upon receiving the first tranche of USD 50,000 the culprits were exposed.
They were detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered non-guilty in the commission of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until he or she is found guilty by court.
