Head of one of Interregional Departments of the Ministry of Justice got a notice of suspicion

On March 19, 2020, the Head of Western Interregional Department of the Criminal Sentence Enforcement and Probation of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, who was exposed on receiving an improper advantage, was given a notice of suspicion of committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The investigation revealed that the official has demanded and received on a monthly basis bribes from the subordinate Heads of the State Criminal-Executive Services.

In exchange he promised that Western Interregional Department of the Criminal Sentence Enforcement and Probation of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine will not carry out inspections of compliance with the prison sentence and will not take measures to control economic activity in the subordinate services of execution of punishment.

On March 11, 2020, the corrupt official was exposed on receiving an improper advantage within joint operation of NABU, the SSU and SAPO.

The NABU Detectives started a pre-trial investigation as of these facts in January 2020.

There are 27 corrections facilities in the territory of Lviv, Volyn, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Rivne and Ternopil Regions under the jurisdiction of the Western Interregional Department of the Criminal Sentence Enforcement and Probation of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.

 

According to Part 1 Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine a person is considered not-guilty in commission of a crime and cannot be a subject to criminal punishment, until he or she is found guilty by the court.

 

The operation was conducted by the officers of the following law enforcement agencies:

- NABU;

- the Main Department of Combating Corruption and Organized Crime of the SSU;

- the Department of Combating Corruption and Organized Crime of the SSU of Volyn Оblast;

- the Department of Internal Security State Criminal Executive Service;

- SAPO;

- agencies under competence of Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.

According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered not-guilty in the commission of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until he or she is found guilty by court.
