Judge from Odesa was caught accepting a 500 thousand UAH bribe
On Wednesday, 29 March, the NABU detectives in cooperation with the National police officers exposed one of the judges of the Malynovsky district court in Odesa of accepting improper advantage in the amount of 500 thousand UAH.
The judge extorted money through an intermediary for passing a certain judgement in a civil case concerning debt collection. During investigative actions conducted by the National Bureau employees the judge resisted arrest and used firearm, aiming to kill. Then he left the gun behind and, using the “judicial immunity” status, fled the scene.
The NABU detectives are currently conducting investigation of a criminal proceeding with signs of criminal offence under article 368, part 4 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (receiving improper advantage).
Searches and other immediate investigative actions are being conducted at the moment. Deputy head of the Malynovsky district court is being checked for involvement in the crime.
The operation proves the point that stripping judges and parliament members of their immunity is an integral part of effective fight against corruption.
