NABU helps expose illegal border crossing scheme
The National Bureau, the Odesa District Police Department №2, and the State Border Guard Service have exposed a mechanism of illegal crossing of the Ukrainian-Moldovan border by draft-age men. On June 10, 2022, a Moldovan citizen, one of scheme's organizers, was served with charges under Part 3 Art. 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
NABU discovered the scheme during the examination of information on possible bribery of the officials of international organizations.
USD 3,000 per person was the price of getting across the state border, allegedly using United Nations certificates and in a car with diplomatic license plates. In fact, the organizers of cross-border transfers used forged passports of Moldovan citizens and cars with Moldovan registration, allowing them to illegally enter Moldova through the transit section of the "Odesa-Reni" route.
During one of such trips, NABU and border guards stopped a car driven by a Moldovan citizen and carrying a Ukrainian.
Considering the jurisdiction of the revealed facts, the investigation will be carried out by the National Police.
