NABU conducts searches in the Kyiv District Administrative Court as of the facts of illegal enrichment of its Chairman
On May 26, 2017, on the basis of decision of investigating judge, the Detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) conducted searches in the house of the Chairman of the Kyiv District Administrative Court (KDAC) and in the court itself.
The searches were conducted as a part of the pre-trial investigation of the criminal proceeding (registered on December 9, 2016) based on information of submitted e-declarations as of the fact of allegedly illegal enrichment of the Chairman of the abovementioned Court (Part 2 Article 368-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
Any statements on possible connection between the NABU`s investigative actions and administrative proceedings of the KDAC on the activities of the Bureau, particularly the case on appeal against the appointment of First Deputy Director of the National Bureau Gizo Uglava, are frankly speculative and have no grounds.
We emphasize that on December 12, 2016, the NABU Detectives started the pre-trial investigation as of the fact of illegal enrichment of the Chairman of the KDAC. At the same time the case on Gizo Uglava appointment appeal was registered on April 11, 2017.
It should be reminded that at the end of March, 2017, the Prosecutor General`s Office of Ukraine registered a criminal proceeding as of the the First Deputy Director of the NABU Gizo Uglava. He is suspected of committing crimes under Part 2 Article 364, Part 4 Article 358, Part 1 Article 212 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
We emphasize that the proceeding has no grounds and its investigation is a time wasting one.
Gizo Uglava had not violated the law on citizenship. Therefore, his appointment as the First Deputy Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau was done in full compliance with the legislation of Ukraine.
Another accusation of the Prosecutor General`s Office of Ukraine on Gizo Uglava’s allegedly unpaid taxes is also unreasonable.
