Court arrests UAH 674 million of illegal VAT refund

At the request of NABU and SAPO, the High Anti-Corruption Court has seized UAH 674 million from the account of the State Treasury, intended to reimburse VAT to companies involved in a corruption scheme. The ruling was sent to the Main Department of the State Treasury Service of Ukraine in Odesa Region on March 1, 2021.

The HACC used the facts gathered by the NABU Detectives, which proved the unfounded grounds for receiving such compensation from the budget. The NABU Detectives established not only the absence of goods at the warehouses, where according to the documents they should have been stored but also the unsuitability of these premises for storage. The relevant evidence was obtained as a result of 39 searches of warehouses conducted during December 2020 - February 2021 (the last search took place on February 16, 2021).

The scheme involves 20 companies controlled by one group of people, whose illegal activities have been investigated by the NABU Detectives since the fall of 2017.
