Receipt of improper advantage by Chernivtsi Regional Council head: case sent to court
On Sept. 3, 2021, NABU and SAPO filed an indictment against the former chairman of the Chernivtsi Regional Council, charged with receiving a USD 180,000 bribe, and one person also involved in the crime.
As established, the ex-official in July 2019 offered a local entrepreneur to give him USD 400 thousand promising to ensure the lease of a health resort. In August-October 2019, he received the first batch of an improper advantage in the amount of USD 180 thousand.
In February 2020, NABU and SAPO notified both persons of suspicion with actions of the ex-official falling under Part 4 Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, and the entrepreneur - Part 4 Art. 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
On Jan. 25, 2021, the case files were disclosed to both suspects for review.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered non-guilty in the commission of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until he or she is found guilty by court.
Застереження. Відповідно до частини першої статті 62 Конституції України особа вважається невинуватою у вчиненні злочину і не може бути піддана кримінальному покаранню, доки її вину не буде доведено в законному порядку і встановлено обвинувальним вироком суду.
