Attempted bribery of Dnipro mayor: case sent to court

On Jan. 18, 2023, NABU and SAPO filed an indictment against the former MP, who was caught attempting to bribe the mayor of Dnipro with EUR 22 million. His actions fall under Part 4 Art. 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

As established, in October 2022, a former MP, ex-top official with the state company "UkrBud", offered the mayor of Dnipro an undue advantage for concluding a contract for the construction of the metro in Dnipro with companies under his control and beyond tender. He promised to give the money in tranches until the end of the project in 2027. The mayor's "loyalty" was estimated at 10 percent of the project's cost (EUR 220 million), which makes EUR 22 million. The project is financed with a loan granted by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The MP was exposed in October 2022. The sum of the proposed undue advantage is unprecedented for Ukraine. NABU started investigating the above facts after the Dnipro mayor's report. On Dec. 9, 2022, the case file was disclosed to the defense for perusal.

The former MP is also accused in another NABU and SAPO case regarding the embezzlement of UAH 81 million of National Guard funds. The case is being heard in court.
