Odesa region court judge finally sentenced to 9 years
Pavlo Medentsev, a judge of the Odesa region Commercial Court, has been found guilty of receiving UAH 570,000 in undue advantage and sentenced to 9 years in prison with confiscation of property. The Criminal Court of Cassation of the Supreme Court has finally upheld the ruling, which was passed by the HACC Appeal Chamber on Oct. 7, 2020.
Pavlo Medentsev has been stripped of the right to hold office for 3 years and ordered to forfeit UAH 250,000.
As reported, the judge solicited and received an unlawful benefit in the amount of UAH 570,000 for issuing a court decision in favor of a plaintiff in a business case following a lawsuit by Smartcom against Guarantee Insurance Company PJSC for the collection of insurance payments in the amount of UAH 2.3 million. He received the money in three stages, twice - directly in his office.
In April 2014, the judge was notified of suspicion. After the launch of NABU and SAPO, the case was taken over by detectives. In May 2016, the indictment was referred to court.
