NABU, SAPO complete investigation of ex-prosecutor charged with 8-kg gold theft
NABU and SAPO have completed the investigation of the ex-prosecutor of the General Prosecutor's Office suspected of acquisition of property and official forgery. On Nov. 4, 2022, the case file was disclosed to the defense for perusal. The actions of the suspect fall under Part 5 Art. 191, Part 1 Art. 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
In 2019, as part of an investigation, the prosecutor searched an inpidual bank safe and snatched 8 kg of gold bars worth over UAH 11.8 million. In order to secure the criminal intention, he forged official documents, in particular, indicating that the gold belonged to another person, who had nothing to do with the safe.
NABU started investigating these facts at the request of the relatives of the owner of the gold. In August 2022, the official was notified of suspicion.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered non-guilty in the commission of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until he or she is found guilty by court.
