NABU completes investigation of SSU cyber security officer

NABU and SAPO have completed the investigation of an employee of the SSU Department of Counterintelligence Protection of the State's Information Security Interests, who was caught receiving USD 60,000 in undue advantage. His actions fall under part 4 Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. On Oct. 20, 2022, the case file was disclosed to the defense for perusal.

As established, the suspect provided operational support in the investigation of cryptocurrency crimes. In particular, he was entitled to take measures to detect criminal offenses, initiate financial and economic activity checks, as well as perform investigative and covert investigative actions within the framework of criminal proceedings. During a search as part of the investigation in a cryptocurrency mining case, he told an entrepreneur that his problems with law enforcement could be solved for USD 60,000.

In July 2022, despite conspiracy measures, the officer was exposed red-handed, detained and notified of suspicion.

The exposure became possible thanks to the entrepreneur's report and concerted efforts by NABU, SAPO, and the SSU Internal Security Department.
