Backing NABU and SAPO is a strategic task — UK Ambassador Martin Harris

The fight against corruption directly impacts national security, underscoring the critical importance of the work carried out by anti-corruption bodies, both during times of war and in the post-war restoration of Ukraine. This point was emphasized by the United Kingdom Ambassador to Ukraine, Martin Harris, during a meeting with the leadership of NABU and SAPO on 25 January 2024.

He specifically noted that overcoming the challenges faced by NABU and SAPO requires collaborative efforts, making the support for these bodies a top priority and strategic task.

The parties discussed challenges that directly affect the independence and effectiveness of both agencies, including the establishment of an autonomous forensic institution, the implementation of NABU's right to conduct independent wiretapping, the need for legislative changes, particularly the repeal of the so-called 'Lozovyi amendments,' and the improvement of the plea deal system.
