Proactive approach to combating corruption — essential component of effective fight for our freedom and prerequisite for Ukraine's EU and OECD accession - Polina Lysenko
Despite the war, Ukraine has been pursuing a series of anti-corruption reforms that are part of the country's efforts to fight for its future, prepare for post-war recovery, and promote multilateral cooperation. This was noted by Polina Lysenko, Deputy Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, at the 2024 OECD Global Anti-Corruption & Integrity Forum (GACIF).
Polina Lysenko thanked partners for their assistance in drafting legislative changes to implement the OECD Anti-Corruption Convention, in particular the liability of legal entities, which is a requirement of other international conventions. Ukraine's membership in the OECD Working Group on Bribery in 2023 has contributed to the enhancement of the legislative framework and the development of the country's anti-corruption infrastructure as a whole. The National Bureau has established even more effective operational cooperation with competent authorities abroad.
The deputy director also highlighted the achievements of the anti-corruption bodies over the past year: "The fight is gaining momentum, in 2023, our results doubled compared to 2022, and in the second half of 2023 alone almost USD 68 million was reimbursed to the state."
At the forum, the NABU delegation plans to hold a series of meetings aimed at consolidating efforts with international partners to conduct effective corruption investigations and exchange experiences.
The OECD is an international organization that unites 37 developed countries. The 2024 OECD Global Anti-Corruption & Integrity Forum will gather leaders from around the world to share new ideas and insights, and to explore how anti-corruption policies and integrity frameworks can enhance our ability to respond to the future challenges our democracies face. It will also mark the 25th Anniversary of the Anti-Bribery Convention, which Ukraine intends to accede to.
