Land scheme in Zakarpattia: defendant extradited from Germany

One of the defendants in the criminal proceedings against a city mayor, a district council head in Zakarpattia, and four other individuals has been extradited to Ukraine. In June 2024, they were exposed for abusing their official positions to sell a municipal land plot of more than 3 hectares at an undervalued price.

It's the appraiser who, in collusion with other scheme participants, falsified the expert monetary valuation report of the land, significantly reducing its estimated value. These actions caused damages of UAH 81.7 million to the local community.

Within 48 hours, the defendant will be brought before the court to consider the motion for a preventive measure.

With the assistance of the competent authorities of the Federal Republic of Germany, the individual was detained in the winter of 2024, and Ukraine’s extradition request was later granted. The handover of the suspect to the National Bureau officers took place at the Krakivets–Korczowa international road border crossing point in the Lviv region.

The extradition became possible thanks to cooperation with the competent authorities of Germany and Poland, as well as effective interaction with the Prosecutor General’s Office as Ukraine’s central authority for extradition requests and the Ukrainian Interpol office.

According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered not-guilty in the commission of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until he or she is found guilty by court.
