UAH 19 million scheme exposed in defense sector (PHOTOS)
NABU and SAPO, jointly with SBU, uncovered a scheme to embezzle funds during the procurement of materials for the defense sector.
As established, in April 2022, one of the state-owned defense enterprises (a plant) needed to purchase aluminum rolled products. The plant's first deputy director came up with a plan to misappropriate part of the allocated money.
He involved the head of a plant unit and the director of the company supplying the aluminum rolled products. Although the company was willing to sell the products at market rate, at the request of the officials, the prices in the commercial offer were inflated, and the goods were sold with some 30% markup.
The total loss to the state enterprise exceeded UAH 19 million.
The actions of the suspects fall under Part 5 Article 27, Part 5 Article 191 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered not-guilty in the commission of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until he or she is found guilty by court.
