UAH 3.4 million kickback for non-interference in reconstruction in Sumy region: new suspect

NABU and SAPO have notified the former acting deputy head of the Criminal Investigation Department of the National Police of Ukraine and the former head of the Strategic Investigations Department of suspicion of aiding and abetting an MP in receiving an undue benefit of a particularly large amount.

The actions of the suspect fall under Part 5 Article 27, Part 2 Article 15, and Part 4 Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

As established, between May and July 2024, the suspect facilitated the MP in receiving undue benefits from contractors performing restoration work on facilities in the Okhtyrka district of the Sumy region, particularly those damaged as a result of russia’s armed aggression.

The suspect's role was to refrain from obstructing the work and to organize the transfer of kickbacks from the contractors to the MP, amounting to UAH 3.4 million.

The MP was served with charges in July of this year.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the involvement of other law enforcement officers is being established.

According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered not-guilty in the commission of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until he or she is found guilty by court.
