NABU, SAPO uncover UAH 16 million computer equipment procurement scheme: three suspects

NABU and SAPO have exposed a scheme involving the misappropriation of state funds via the procurement of computer equipment at inflated prices. The charges have been brought against the ex-head of a state institution of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the owner and director of a private enterprise. Their actions fall under Part 5 Art. 191 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, in 2020, the head of a state institution of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in collusion with the owner and director of a private enterprise, secured a contract for the supply of computer equipment worth over UAH 26 million.

Subsequently, the enterprise purchased this equipment through proxy companies from a manufacturer at market prices and supplied it to the customer at a price artificially inflated by nearly three times.

The scheme caused losses to the state worth UAH 16.6 million. 

The director of the enterprise has been detained, the court has put him in custody with bail set at UAH 3 million.

According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered not-guilty in the commission of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until he or she is found guilty by court.
