$2.2 million bribe for military housing: Armed Forces official suspected (PHOTOS)

NABU and SAPO have exposed an official of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for accepting an undue advantage from a developer.

According to the investigation, in March 2021, while serving as the head of a regional department of the Military Law Enforcement Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and concurrently commanding a military compound in Lviv, the suspect offered to facilitate the construction of a multi-apartment residential building on the compound’s premises.

The official enlisted accomplices to carry out the scheme and valued his “services” at USD 2.2 million.

USD 1.5 million of that amount was intended directly for the Armed Forces official. He planned to transfer a part of these funds to members of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in exchange for their approval of a joint activity agreement between the developer and the military unit under his command.

The remaining USD 700,000 was to be divided among his accomplices — a former lawyer and another property developer.

NABU detectives documented the transfer of USD 2 million in cash between March 2021 and July 2023.

The following individuals have been notified of suspicion:

• the Armed Forces official — Part 4 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine;
• the property developer — Part 4 of Art. 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine;
• the accomplices — Part 5 of Art. 27, Part 4 of Art. 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing. Other individuals potentially involved in the crime are being identified.
