NABU and SAPO have exposed a scheme involving the extortion of an undue benefit and the legalization of assets, implicating former officials of the Kirovohrad Regional Prosecutor's Office.
As established, the first deputy head of the Kirovohrad Regional Prosecutor's Office demanded a bribe from the deputy director of an enterprise under the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences and the director of a state-owned enterprise. In exchange, he promised to close an ongoing criminal proceeding.
According to the deal, part of the bribe was a Tesla Model X P100D. To hide the vehicle, the official enlisted his colleague, the head of a district prosecutor’s office. The latter found a front person to sign a power of attorney, granting them the right to manage and sell the car. However, these plans were thwarted after the High Anti-Corruption Court seized the Tesla as part of another case.
Later, the prosecutor received an additional USD 13,500 through an intermediary, but was subsequently refused the remaining amount because he failed to fulfill the promise.
In total, the demanded undue advantage exceeded USD 88,000.
The former first deputy head of the Kirovohrad Regional Prosecutor’s Office has been detained pursuant to Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. His actions fall under Part 4 of Art. 368, Part 2 of Art. 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
