Procurement control and abuse detection: NABU and MOD’s Public Anti-Corruption Council step up cooperation
Timely receipt of information on Ministry of Defense’s procurement is crucial not only for detecting possible abuses but also for their prevention. This was emphasized by the Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, Semen Kryvonos, during a meeting with representatives of the Public Anti-Corruption Council at the Ministry of Defense on May 3.
"Since the full-scale invasion began, NABU detectives have registered 29 criminal proceedings regarding defense procurements, agency agreements, including in the field of catering. We keep making efforts to expose corruption offenses in this area. Timely receipt of comprehensive information that can reveal specific abuses that is significant for us," Semеn Kryvonos said.
Yevhen Hrushovets, the head of the Public Anti-Corruption Council at the Ministry of Defense, said the first requests regarding food products, fuel and lubricants, as well as material support had been filed.
"We have already held several meetings with the ministry's leadership. They are willing to provide information on these procurements. If we see signs of abuse and understand that this falls within NABU's jurisdiction, we will inform you," assured Yevhen Hrushovets.
