NABU, SAPO showcase strong results in the second half of 2023

The second half of 2023 was marked by arguably the highest number of high-profile exposures in the entire history of NABU and SAPO.

For the first time, detectives revealed corruption in the restoration sector and the provision of undue advantage in cryptocurrency. Former and current high-ranking ministerial officials were notified of suspicion of misappropriation over UAH 62 million during the procurement of food supplies for the population in a state of war.

Corruption among judges and misappropriation of millions of dollars in the energy and defence sectors were also exposed. New suspicions were announced in the cases of PrivatBank, the State Property Fund, Optimumspetsdetal and the Novoyavorivska and Novorozdilska TPPs.

Overall, from July to December last year, detectives exposed: 10 top state officials, 7 "A" category officials, 1 high-ranking military officer, 13 heads of state-owned enterprises, 9 judges, 3 MPs and 77 others (individuals and officials, lawyers, etc.).

The economic effect of NABU and SAPO activities in the second half of 2023 hit a record high, surpassing a staggering UAH 3 billion. This figure is more than twice as big as the annual budget of the National Bureau.

In particular, in NABU and SAPO cases over UAH 430.1 million was allocated in favor of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, over UAH 2.4 billion was reimbursed to the state, and UAH 115 million was confiscated into state revenue.
