29 new investigations, 7 indictments sent to court – NABU, SAPO results in January 2022
In January 2022, NABU launched investigations within 29 criminal cases, served 4 notices of suspicion, and filed four indictments against 7 persons. One conviction in respect of one person came into force. During the first month of the year NABU and SAPO charged the head of a Prosecutor General`s Office department with incitement to bribery and fraud.
In January, NABU completed investigations of:
- 10 suspects involved in UAH 115 million embezzlement of the municipal association "Kyivzelenbud";
- 9 suspects involved in the corruption scheme to embezzle more than UAH 26.8 million from the city budget during the reconstruction of Soborna Square in Mykolaiv.
NABU and SAPO filed an indictment against six officials involved in causing a UAH 131 million loss to the Odesa budget.
NABU and SAPO filed a motion to the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) to declare the assets belonging to a judge of the Kyiv Region District Court unjustified and confiscate them. The judge became the owner of a 142-square-meter apartment in Kyiv and a car, the total value of both reaching UAH 6.7 million.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered non-guilty in the commission of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until he or she is found guilty by court.
