49 new cases, five indictments sent to court - NABU and SAPO results in June 2021
In June 2021, NABU launched probes within 49 criminal cases, served six notices of suspicion, and filed five indictments against six people. One conviction against three persons came into force.
Last month the Detectives exposed:
- the former Head of Ukrkhimtransamiak SE who abused power to embezzle more than UAH 42.5 million;
- the former Head of Ukragroleasing SE NJSC and his accomplice, the head of a private company. Their illegal actions resulted in the loss of UAH 4.9 million losses by the State;
- the judge of the Dnipropetrovsk District Court in Dnipropetrovsk region who was exposed receiving USD 2.5 thousand for taking a decision in the interests of a person in a civil case;
- the former Security Service senior investigator in Odesa region who extorted and accepted USD 80 thousand.
During the last month, the NABU Detectives completed probes into:
- embezzling UAH 7 mln of Pivdendiproshakht SE and forging documents;
- an attempt to give an improper advantage to the Head of the State Service of Ukraine for Geodesy, Cartography and Cadastre for the issuance of orders to allocate land plots to straw persons.
The following persons were put on trial:
- the former First Deputy Head of the State Migration Service of Ukraine charged with committing a criminal offense in 2017 that was revealed after NABU's undercover operation to expose corruption in the migration sphere;
- the former Head of the Vinnytsia region road service who offered a UAH 4.7 million bribe to the Head of the Regional State Administration for amending the local budget expenditures;
- two officials who illegally leased the assets of Boryspil International Airport SE;
- the former Mykolaivoblenerho JSC official exposed offering an improper advantage to the head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine.
In June, the ruling to return Natskinemateka's assets (14 buildings and facilities with total area of over 5 thousand sq.m. located across 8 hectares on the outskirts of Kyiv) under State ownership was upheld by court. The recovery became possible after NABU's probe.
In addition, last month NABU stepped up cooperation with the Ministry for Communities and Territories Development, and State Service for Urban Planning. The respective heads signed a memorandum providing for the key cooperation spheres and responsibilities of the parties.
On June 4, a new composition of the seventh convocation of the Civil Oversight Council at the National Anti-corruption Bureau of Ukraine was elected. The members of the Council began their work and held the first meeting, where they elected a chairman and delegated representatives to NABU’s selection and disciplinary boards.
According to Article 62 of the Constitution of Ukraine, a person is considered not-guilty in the commission of a crime and cannot be subject to criminal punishment until he or she is found guilty by court.
