Gas case: fugitive suspect caught at roadblock

A suspect in the infamous Gas case has been detained at a roadblock after hiding for six years in russia. As a member of a criminal organization, he left Ukraine in 2016 and has been wanted ever since. He returned to Ukraine bypassing border checkpoints and used conspiracy measures to avoid detention.

During a document check at a roadblock, the fugitive was identified, detained, and handed over to NABU.

On May 11, 2022, he was remanded in custody with an alternative of a UAH 744,000 bail.

The Gas case involves one of the largest corruption schemes in Ukraine's history organized by a former MP and implemented by 28 more persons. It resulted in almost UAH 3 billion losses to the state.

The scheme was exposed and investigated by NABU and SAPO. Of the 29 identified participants, 11 have been found guilty (convictions took effect), three including the MP are wanted, and the rest are standing trial.
