Ukraine army gets USD 200,000 at the initiative of NABU, SAPO, HACC
On June 20, 2022, at the initiative of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor`s Office (SAPO) USD 199.9 thousand was transferred for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This amount was part of a USD 800,000 bribe meant for the head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine. The person who tried to give the bribe was caught red-handed, while the funds were arrested.
The High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) has recently lifted the seizure of these funds and ordered NABU to use them to strengthen the state's defense capabilities.
In addition, on June 1, 2022, following another HACC ruling, UAH 3.2 million, posted as bail for the accused in the same case, was also transferred to the Armed Forces.
As reported, on July 9, 2020, NABU and SAPO exposed a lawyer who planned to offer USD 800 to the head of the State Property Fund of Ukraine for the appointment of pre-determined persons to the administrative positions at two state-owned enterprises, as well as the extension of an agreement between one of these state-owned enterprises and a commercial company. NABU detectives detained the lawyer as he was trying to give the first tranche. The case is currently pending before the HACC.
Since the beginning of the war, a total of over UAH 450 million in bail and seized assets in the NABU and SAPO cases have been directed to the Armed Forces.
